Drueke King Arthur Chess Set, Exc. Condition.
This set was introduced by Wm. F. Drueke & Sons in 1964 and was in production for about 20 years. The pieces are reproductions of the original wooden hand-carved pieces designed by Charles Bendekgey. Not many were sold, and so this is a very rare, collectible chess set.The first sets in this line were made of a thin plastic which tended to come apart, since the pieces were made in two halves glued together in order to put a weight inside, and the weights themselves often became loose. This set is made of a thicker, harder, more durable plastic, and the weights are all secure. The pieces are all in
EXC.
condition, with kings measuring 4 and 1/8" tall and weighing 1.25 oz. The board is also in
EXC
. condition with no splits in the fold, no tears,
VERY CLEAN.
The box is in
GOOD
condition, with a split in one corner (see picture of box edge), and the piece divisions on the bottom row are all separated from the lower edge of the piece compartment. One division on the top row is also separated. You can see some of it in the picture of the empty box. In spite of this, the pieces all stay firmly in their respective compartments.
