Description

Very nice Anri Toriart Charlemagne Chess Set made in Italy. These are a cast composite material invented by Anri called “Sculptite" which is a mixture of sawdust and resin. The castings are mounted on turned wooden bases with felt bottoms. Then mounted in a beautiful mid century teak wood box. Included with this set was a booklet on the game published in 1971 which matches when this set was probably produced.
The medieval design of the pieces was inspired by King Charlemagne (768-814), widely recognized as one of the greatest Christian Monarchs who unified most of Western Europe under the Carolignian Empire. Really a lovely and very collectable set.
In very good vintage condition overall with just minor signs of wear and age, I examined each piece and see no damage or repairs. However it is possible I missed a well done repair, these are somewhat delicate pieces. Please note: there is no chess board included with this set.
